phonostar-Player Review: Robust Online Radio and Podcast Manager for Power Users

phonostar-Player from phonostar GmbH is a focused desktop application for listening to, discovering and recording internet radio and podcasts. With access to more than 20,000 stations, real-time search, scheduled recordings and an integrated podcast manager, the Player targets listeners who want full control over streams, automatic captures and an organized audio archive.

Core features

Extensive station index: Browse and play over 20,000 radio stations across genres and regions with one-click streaming and automatic selection of the highest-quality available stream.

Powerful real-time search: Instant filtering across stations, shows and podcasts with a dedicated "Now Playing" view to surface currently airing programs.

Automated discovery (Wunschlisten): Create persistent wishlists that search the schedule for matching shows and populate your personal program automatically.

Recording and scheduling: Record live radio manually, schedule single or recurring recordings, extend recording times, and let the Player wake the PC to complete captures reliably.

Flexible file formats and splitting: Save recordings as MP3 or WAV and optionally split long recordings into smaller files by time or size during capture.

Parallel recordings: Record multiple overlapping programs simultaneously without loss of content.

Podcast management: Browse, subscribe and auto-download podcasts (over 1,500 in the Player) with episode playlists and personal categories in "My Podcasts."

Playback controls and sound: Built-in equalizer presets (Pop, Dance, Classical, etc.), pause-to-time-shift live radio and continue playback later while the track is still being recorded in the background.

Library and favorites: Quickly access "Recently Played", curated editorial picks, Top 100 charts by genre, new stations and user favorites organized into custom categories.

Ratings and community signals: Rate stations and podcasts from one to five stars to help surface popular content.

Usability and workflow

The interface emphasizes fast discovery and routine automation. Real-time search and the "My Program" overview collect shows you care about for the coming week, while wishlists and scheduled recordings reduce manual effort. The Player handles stream failover automatically and maintains an accessible "My Recordings" area to play back, protect or auto-delete files based on disk quota settings.

PLUS subscription: Removes in-app advertising and unlocks additional convenience features across phonostar apps.

Price: phonostar-Player PLUS is available from €0.99 per month.

Cross-device: PLUS benefits also apply to the phonostar Radio mobile app and cloud features where available.
